  • Calling the UK Government to ratify without exceptions to protect all women against violence

    Ten years ago, the UK Government committed to tackling violence against women by signing the ‘Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence’, better known as the ‘Istanbul Convention’. UK Government has said it will put this Convention into law. However, certain protections will not apply to migrant women. This is because the UK Government has chosen to opt-out of ratifying certain parts of the Convention meaning migrant women will be denied life-saving support and protection.

The Human Rights Consortium Scotland has gathered evidence from Together and many of our members to identify the human rights progress in the UK and Scotland.   • Minimum age for marriage to be raised across England and Wales

    The minimum age of marriage has will be raised from 16 to 18. This will also apply to religious and cultural marriages not registered with the couples' local council. Children will not face penalties under the new law, but adults who facilitate their marriage within England and Wales, or abroad could face a fine and up to seven years in jail.
