The State of Children’s Rights Report (SOCRR) is an annual report published by Together to highlight what actions are being taken in Scotland to respect, protect and fulfil children’s human rights. The report also allows us to reflect on what more needs to be done to ensure that every child can enjoy all their rights and reach their full potential.
This year marked the one year anniversary of the commencement of the UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (known as the UNCRC Act). The State of Children's Rights Report aims to identify how the incorporation of the UNCRC into domestic law has furthered the realisation of children’s rights, and to highlight what progress has been made so far in realising children’s rights, recognising that implementation of legislation takes time and that sharing good practice can help inspire ideas and action. We also aim to highlight areas for development that will enable policy and legislative reform to improve children and young people’s experiences.
We invite you to share your own good practice case studies for inclusion in Together’s State of Children’s Rights Report.
We have had lots of amazing case studies submitted, but we are still looking for evidence of accountability in practice in Scotland. This might include:
- Monitoring children’s rights and providing remedies
- Being transparent about decision making
- Sharing information so children and young people can influence and challenge decisions
- Supporting feedback mechanisms and access to independent complaints procedures
- Supporting access to advice and advocacy
We are hoping you can help us with a case study which illustrates examples of good accountability practice in Scotland.
We also have some other areas that we are looking for examples of -
- Linking children’s rights to other policies and frameworks
- Working with the Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland and the Scottish Human Rights Commission
- Using Child Rights Impact Assessments and Child Rights Impact Evaluations
- Using child rights budgeting
- Supporting children and young people to assemble and create their own associations
Next Steps
Together is seeking evidence of accountability for our next State of Children’s Rights Report.
Your initial case study submission can be a draft version as Together will work with you to make any necessary edits before including your case study in the final report.
We therefore ask that you are available after submission to allow us to contact you promptly and finalise your case study.
Since this is a new ask, we would be looking for submission by the 6 January 2026, though if you can submit sooner that would be really helpful.
Word Count: Up to 1,000 words.
