Children and young people from Armed Forces families across Highland have shared a powerful collective message about what life is really like when a parent serves. In their statement, they describe the pride they feel in their families, but also the unique challenges they face from frequent moves and long separations to the emotional strain of deployments.

They call for greater understanding in schools and communities, asking adults to recognise how military life affects friendships, learning and wellbeing. Young people also highlight the importance of consistent support, safe spaces to talk, and being included in decisions that shape their lives.

Their message is a reminder that behind every serving member of the Armed Forces is a family navigating change, uncertainty and resilience. Listening to these voices is essential to ensuring that Armed Forces children are not only supported but really seen.

The book is designed for children from Armed Forces families who live all over the world, and who might be moving to the Highlands of Scotland. It was created with the help of primary students and is suitable for younger children.
