Rights of the Child UK (ROCK)
This two-part events series focussed on the opportunities of national incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The first of the two events featured Professor Ursula Kilkelly, a leading expert on international children’s rights, who presented the findings of her recently published book ‘Incorporating the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.’ Professor Kilkelly shared insights about the challenges and successes different countries have faced when incorporating the Convention in their own unique contexts.
The second event shared learning from Scotland on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill and heard from individuals and groups who played a key part in securing this landmark piece of legislation: Clare Haughey MSP, Scotland’s Minister for Children and Young People; members of the Children’s and Youth Parliaments; Bruce Adamson, Scottish Commissioner for Children and Young People; Juliet Harris, Director of Together; and the Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Mikiko Otani.
The event was co-chaired by Josh Kennedy MSYP, the Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament, and Louise King, the Director of the Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE), part of Just for Kids Law (JfKL), and current ROCK Chair.
