This guide provides ideas to ensure continuity of learning during school closures. It also offers comprehensive, timely and evidence-based plans for reopening schools in a way that is safe, gender-responsive and child-friendly, whilst also meeting the needs of the most marginalised girls.

This guide builds on the UN Framework for Reopening Schools, the Safe Back to School Practitioners Guide, and other guidance developed to help governments and school communities to ‘build back better’ after COVID-19. It goes further, calling for action to ‘build back equal’, by promoting targeted actions to ensure girls’ continuity of learning and return to school when these reopen.
