People in Scotland are more likely to support human rights than not and are increasingly worried about having fewer human rights, according to new research published by the Scottish Human Rights Commission. The Commission asked public opinion specialists YouGov to carry out research to investigate public attitudes towards human rights in Scotland and published these results for Human Rights Day.

Alyssa Faulkner, Project Worker on UNCRC Framework Project at Children’s Parliament, discusses how the children and adults participated in different activities on the day, allowing them to speak openly about their own personal stories and lived experiences to inform the UNCRC implementation project.

Together along with partners JRS Knowhow, Children’s Parliament, JustRight Scotland, and the Observatory on Human Rights of Children at Swansea University, have been working on a project funded by the Scottish Government, developing a Skills and Knowledge Framework and Training Plan for UNCRC Implementation in Scotland. This project aims to empower the public sector workforce to confidently use a child rights approach when upholding their statutory duties. The Scottish Government has commissioned the Centre for Excellence for Children’s Care and Protection (CELCIS) to conduct independent research to gather evidence to inform decision making about how best to deliver children’s services in Scotland.
