Home-Start is one of the leading family support charities in the UK. Home-Start volunteers work with families with young children to help them flourish in challenging times. They help parents grow stronger connections with their children, improve confidence and coping skills and build better futures. More than 3,000 families, and over 4,000 children, are being supported by over 1,000 volunteers in 31 local Home-Starts in Scotland every year. Home-Start delivers the Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach and has taken on the Attainment Challenge through its Big Hopes, Big Future programme. It is ideally placed to help the Scottish Government and others build stronger communities and brighter futures for all Scotland's children. Our volunteers, often parents who once needed help themselves, complement the early years workforce, significantly contributing to the support families receive and enabling them to access services when they are most needed. Home-Start was founded in 1973. The first Home-Start in Scotland started work in Perth in 1984.
