Consultation on new rules for tobacco and vaping products

The UK Government is seeking views on proposals to introduce new rules for tobacco, vaping and nicotine products under the Tobacco and Vapes Act. The proposals apply across the UK and have been developed with the devolved governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The aim is to reduce the appeal of these products, particularly to children and young people, while continuing to support adults who smoke to quit.

The proposals include changes to the packaging and appearance of some tobacco and vaping products, as well as rules about where these products can be displayed in shops. The changes would cover items including cigarette papers, herbal smoking products, heated tobacco devices, vapes and other nicotine products.

In March this year, three children from Children’s Parliament’s organised and led an event on the issue of vaping. They co-designed and delivered all aspects of the event to raise awareness, gather views, and speak directly to local stakeholders and decision-makers.
