After the European Parliament’s call for a comprehensive and adequately funded Strategy, Eurochild and Coalition partners urge the European Commission to ensure its 6 May 2026 launch delivers swift, decisive EU-level action to eradicate poverty and truly leave no one behind.

On 12 February 2026, the European Parliament adopted its position on the European Commission’s upcoming EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, marking a significant political signal ahead of its planned launch on 6 May 2026. The report demands an ambitious, comprehensive, human-rights-based strategy to eradicate poverty across the EU by 2035, backed by adequate funding through the EU’s budget framework and targeting root causes of inequality and exclusion.

Civil society groups including Eurochild welcomed the strong emphasis on multidimensional poverty, quality jobs, social protection, child and family poverty, and access to basic services. However, they expressed deep concern that the final text was watered down, notably by excluding migrants and undocumented people from the list of vulnerable groups and downplaying key tools such as the European Platform on Combating Homelessness. The coalition argues that an EU strategy that fails to include all people in or at risk of poverty undermines the goal of leaving no one behind.

Decision-makers are now urged to ensure that the final strategy reflects these calls for inclusivity, strong funding, and clear action to make Europe’s first Anti-Poverty Strategy truly effective.
