The Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry has published a report bringing together the experiences of education professionals, parents, carers and students on how the pandemic affected education and childcare in Scotland between 2020 and 2022.

The report is part of Let’s Be Heard, a public participation project that gave people the opportunity to share their experiences and highlight lessons for future pandemic planning. More than 12,500 people across Scotland took part, including over 2,000 children and young people whose experiences were analysed separately.

The report explores experiences across early years, primary and secondary schools, additional support needs settings, colleges and universities. It also considers how pandemic restrictions affected families, childcare and learning.

The findings reflect the experiences of people who chose to participate and do not represent the views of everyone in Scotland. They are intended to inform the Inquiry’s investigations, with the aim of helping Scotland prepare better for future emergencies. The education and childcare report is the second of four thematic volumes covering people’s experiences of the pandemic.
