General measures of implementation
Scotland’s children’s rights landscape is changing fast. In partnership with Dentons law firm, our weekly Monitoring Report highlights key developments you won’t want to miss. It includes the latest debates in Scottish Parliament, motions, questions, updates on Bills, and upcoming consultations.
The mailing list is an exclusive perk for our NGO member organisations.
The latest edition (5-9th January) included updates such as:
-
UNCRC compatibility and new bills: concerns raised by Douglas Ross MSP around Scottish Government’s approach when introducing new legislation. He noted stakeholder concerns that children’s rights are not being properly embedded when bills are first introduced, necessitating amendment in later stages. An example he cited was the Promise Bill.
-
Swimming: parliamentary petition on children’s access to swimming pools and lessons – an issue children highlighted in our State of Children’s Rights Report 2024.
-
School transport cuts: MSPs discussing the Draft Climate Change Plan flagged concerns about local authorities reducing school transport to the statutory minimum, meaning children need to walk long distances – another issue that children highlighted in our State of Children’s Rights Report 2024.
