xThe State of the World's Children 2025: Ending child poverty
Date: 1st December 2025
Category:
Child poverty, Social security
UNICEF firmly believes that after years of effort and research have shown that ending child poverty and improving children’s circumstances is a policy choice and introduces 5 policy pillars needed to reach this goal:
-
Make ending child poverty a national priority
-
Integrate children’s needs into economic policies and budgets
-
Expand inclusive social protection
-
Expand access to quality public services
-
Promote decent work for parents and caregivers
They also identify three main issues that are in the way of ending child poverty:
-
The climate and environmental crises
-
Rising levels of conflict
-
The funding crisis and underinvestment in children
Throughout the State of the World’s Children 2025 report, many stories told by children and young people can be found, giving insight on how poverty has direct impact on their life, and taking measurements to combat child poverty have been proven to improve their situations. They provide evidence of what policy works when conditions allow, and promising, scalable adaptations for when they don’t.
It is a collective duty to ensure that all of us build a world, where no child lives in poverty and the rights of every child are fully realised and upheld.
