General measures of implementation
The Independent Human Rights Fund for Scotland (delivered by Corra on behalf of a partnership of funders) has announced new grants worth £125,000 to support organisations working with Human Rights Defenders across the country.
Human Rights Defenders are people who work peacefully to promote or protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, whether acting alone or with others and on their own human rights or the rights of others. The funding will help four Scottish organisations to continue the important work they do with different groups of Human Rights Defenders:
- Children’s Parliament (Supporting child Human Rights Defenders);
- Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland (Supporting environmental Human Rights Defenders);
- Glasgow Disability Alliance (Supporting disabled Human Rights Defenders);
- Making Rights Real (Supporting wider Human Rights Defenders initiatives.)
The grants will also support international Human Right Defenders fellows currently involved in the Scottish Human Rights Defender Fellowship, helping to connect global voices with local action. This funding aims to raise awareness of the important role Human Rights Defenders play and ensure they receive the support they need to continue their work. The Fund is backed by eight UK-based funders, including The Robertson Trust, Corra Foundation and The Baring Foundation.
