xChildren’s rights in practice: taking a children’s rights-based approach in local authorities
Date: 25th June 2025
Category:
General measures of implementation, General principles
The Improvement Service is gathering real-life examples from local councils across Scotland to show how children’s rights are being respected and put into practice in everyday work.
These case studies aim to support learning between Councils and encourage the use of children’s rights in all areas of local services not just in schools or social care, but also in areas like transport, housing, and the environment. There are no limits on the kind of practice or when it took place. Councils are invited to share their work through a simple template, or they can speak with the Improvement Service team, who can help write the case study.
The full collection of case studies is available online and will keep growing as more examples are shared. It’s part of a wider effort to help all local authorities put children’s rights at the centre of their policies and services.
