This annual report by Eurochild highlights its key achievements throughout 2024 in promoting and protecting children’s rights across Europe.
In 2024, Eurochild led several efforts to protect and promote children’s rights across Europe, especially during the EU elections. Working with partners like the Child Rights Action Group, Eurochild helped launch the Vote for Children campaign and presented the Child Rights Manifesto, shaped by over 9,000 children’s views through the Europe Kids Want survey.
One major success was the re-establishment of the European Parliament’s Child Rights Intergroup, ensuring children’s issues remain a focus in EU decision-making until 2029. Eurochild also held events to connect with newly elected MEPs and raise awareness of children's needs. Throughout the year, Eurochild defended children’s rights in countries like Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania, where new laws threatened the rights of children and LGBTQI+ families. Eurochild also helped the UN launch the first International Day of Play and completed the Building Children’s Futures project in Ireland, which led to new child-focused policy tools being adopted nationally.
To mark World Children’s Day 2024, Eurochild published the Eurochild Flagship report that compiles information gathered from 57 Eurochild members in 31 countries across Europe and provides an overview of children’s realities in these countries. Together worked with Children in Scotland to shape the chapter on developments in Scotland.
