In the post, the Chief Executive Officers of SCLD and PAMIS discuss the importance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill for children and young people with learning/intellectual disabilities.
The organisations welcome the “landmark” Bill saying it will begin to “unlock doors to realise human rights” for children and young people with learning/intellectual disabilities.
The organisations suggest certain ways in which the Bill could be further strengthened, including a duty to ensure that children and young people are aware of their rights, and know how to file complaints. These are important to ensure rights are within reach for all children and young people.
