A UN inter-governmental working group has published a revised draft for a proposed treaty on business and human rights.

The proposed treaty aims to prevent human rights abuses by transnational corporations and other businesses, and close existing gaps in justice for victims.

It follows the publication of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child’s General Comment 16 on business and children’s rights in 2013, and recognises “the distinctive and disproportionate impact of certain business-related human rights abuses on…children, and the need for a perspective that takes into account their specific circumstances and vulnerabilities”.

The draft will form the subject of negotiations at the working group’s session on 14-18th October 2019 in Geneva.
