The aims of the plan were also developed after consultation with children and young people across Scotland. The three aims are:
- To be a successful Children and Young People's Commissioner who makes a difference to the lives of children and young people;
- To establish a culture of children's human rights;
- To make sure that children's human rights are at the centre of laws, policies and practice.

The Young Advisors also helped the Commissioner to lay the Strategic Plan before Scottish Parliament.
