European and External Relations Committee Report on repeal of the Human Rights Act

In 2015, Together gave written evidence to the European and External Relations Committee for its inquiry on the UK Government's proposals to repeal the Human Rights Act 1998. The Committee has now concluded its inquiry and has written to the UK Government with its key findings.

Looking to the future, in its legacy report to its successor committee, the Committee has stated that it is important that a committee of the Scottish Parliament continue to monitor and scrutinise developments in relation to any reform of human rights legislation.

The document states that:

"The Committee would like to highlight that our inquiry has shown that there is strong opposition from Scottish stakeholders to any repeal of the Human Rights Act 1998, as they did not perceive that there was any evidence for doing so and believe that any human rights reform should build on and strengthen the Act. We therefore ask you to take these views into account in any reform of human rights legislation."
