The latest meeting of the Scottish Child Rights Implementation Monitoring Group (SCRIMG) took place on Friday 19th December 2014 and minutes from the meeting along with a one-page summary have been published.

The Scottish Child Rights Implementation Monitoring Group meets quarterly and aims to develop a common understanding on progress to implement the UNCRC in Scotland as well as discussing emerging issues and, where possible, agreeing approaches and actions to address them.
The one-page summary highlights key areas of discussion from the meeting, which included:

  • Updating the Terms of Reference of the Group through the establishment of a SCRIMG coordination group to reflect the scope of duties included in parts 1 & 3 of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 (CYP Act), and a Ministerial Advisory Group on Children's Rights to provide strategic oversight, raise awareness and understanding of the UNCRC across government departments and support the implementation of the CYP Act. Both would work alongside the existing monitoring group.
  • The involvement of children in NGO reporting to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child on implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the schedule for reporting in Scotland and across the UK.
  • Keeping informed of latest developments for guidance for the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 including a Child Rights Impact Assessment (CRIA) model and updates of preparations for the commencement of Part 1 duties of the CYP Act.
  • Key themes from the Together State of Children's Rights 2014 report.
