Date: 25th February 2015
Category: Scotland-specific monitoring and reporting

Together is holding seminars in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee and Inverness to explore and gather evidence on the implementation of children's rights under the UNCRC.

In the coming year, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child will be looking at how well children's rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) are being protected across the UK and making recommendations to be taken forward by the Scottish and UK Government.

Together will be producing a report to raise key issues faced by children and young people in Scotland, to help highlight to the UN Committee where further efforts are required to fulfil children's rights.

The seminars will provide the opportunity for those working with or for children and young people to raise the issues facing the children they work with, and ensure that these issues are taken forward by Together and highlighted to the UN Committee.

The seminars will:

  • offer an introduction to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) reporting process;
  • consider the implementation of children's rights and the extent to which Together's 2014 State of Children's Rights report reflects local experience;
  • enable professionals working with and for children and young people across Scotland to input what they think needs to happen so that children have their rights fulfiled.

There will be breakout sessions during the event to encourage more in-depth discussion and evidence-gathering around specific areas of children's rights. Further information and a pre-seminar questionnaire will be sent out to delegates in advance of the seminar to encourage informed discussion on the day.

Together's seminars are targeted at all professions working with or for children in the voluntary sector and in local and national governmental/statutory bodies.
