UN Committee Day of Discussion 2014: digital media & child rights

The topic for the 2014 day of discussion will be digital media and children's rights & the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child are inviting children to participate.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child help governments to better respect, protect and fulfil the rights of all children under 18. As part of this work, the Committee holds Days of General Discussion about different topics every two years. During the day, the Committee learns from experts, organizations and children themselves, so that it can better advise government to do their jobs well.

The Committee is inviting children and teens (under 18 years old) to share their opinions and experiences before the Day of General Discussion on digital media and children's rights (they can also participate via Facebook and Twitter during the event).

Before the discussion, children can: write to the Committee, send a report, make a short film or create a Storify page.

The two main themes will be:

  • Access to digital media and ICT;
  • Children's participation and education online.

A briefing has been produced for children and teens about how they can participate in the discussion.
