June 24th 2013 marks an important date in the journey of the Children's Hearings System, with the introduction of the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 and the establishment of Children's Hearings Scotland; a non-departmental public body.

The Act creates the role of National Convener, to act as a figurehead for Scotland's 2,700 volunteer panel members and ensure they are consistently supported to a high standard. The Act also creates a dedicated national body, Children's Hearings Scotland, to support the National Convener in the delivery of her functions related to the recruitment, selection, training, retention and support of panel members.
