xWales Children's Rights Scheme progress report released

The Welsh Government have published a progress report on the Children's Rights Scheme and have acknowledged UNICEF UK's role in the development of the legislation and subsequent implementation of the duties.
The Children's Rights Scheme supports The Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011, which was passed by the National Assembly for Wales on 18th January 2011. The Measure places duties on Welsh ministers to have due regard to the UNCRC and its Optional Protocols, and promote knowledge and understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child amongst children, young people and adults.
The Children's Rights Scheme was approved by the Welsh Government and sets out the arrangements they have made for the purpose of securing compliance with the duty.
On 31 January 2013, the Welsh Government published a progress report on the Children's Rights Scheme, which acknowledged UNICEF UK's role in the development of the legislation and subsequent implementation of the duties.
In a statement announcing the launch, Lesley Griffiths, Minister for Health and Social Services, said that "Developing and mainstreaming a child rights culture within the work of Welsh Government, and ultimately within the wider society of Wales, is our longer term aim."
