Universal Periodic Review

Both the UK and the Scottish Governments have formally responded to the recommendations contained in the Report of the UN Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all 192 UN Member States once every four years. Established in 2007, the UPR is a State-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfil their human rights obligations. The review of the United Kingdom was held on 24 May 2012, with the UK delegation led by Lord McNally, Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice.
