Consultation on Equalities and Human Rights Commission

Date: 2nd May 2011
Category: General measures of implementation

In March the Westminster government launched a consultation on plans to reform the Equality and Human Rights Commission. In addition to significant budget cuts of up to 50% set out in the 2010 Spending Review, the reform consultation proposes to:

  • stop the helpline
  • stop grants programme
  • significantly reduce the remit of the Commission so that it acts as regulator and no longer engages in outreach work to promote understanding of equality and diversity in the wider community
