Closing Date: 26th January 2024

As part of The Promise to children and young people, the Scottish Government is seeking views on the proposed Care Leaver Payment, a one-off payment of £2000 to young people moving from care.

The consultation contains questions on a range of issues including the purpose of the payment, the eligibility criteria of the payment, and the support required to apply for and manage the payment.

In June, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child made extensive recommendations to the UK and Scottish Government on the rights of Care Experienced children and young people including more support for Care Leavers. Our members such as Who Cares? Scotland recently released a report where you can find more about Care Leavers and indirect discrimination within the system, leaving them without support. You can also read our last State of Children’s Rights Report to find out more about Care Experienced children and young people’s rights in Scotland.
