This non-statutory national Guidance outlines how statutory and non-government agencies should work together with parents, families and communities to prevent harm to children.

The revision forms part of the Scottish Government’s Child Protection Improvement Programme, which aims to make improvements in all areas of child protection and reflects current best practice and changes in legislation, such as changes anticipated once the UNCRC Bill enters into force. It is also informed by engagement with children, young people and families, practitioners, and other relevant agencies and stakeholder groups, and learning from inspections, research and child protection cases.
