A new £10-per-week payment to support eligible families with children under the age of six was launched by Scottish Government on Monday 15th February 2021 as part of its efforts to tackle child poverty.

Parents and carers are being urged to apply for this benefit as it is assumed that so far, only 44.5% of the carers of the 173,000 children estimated to be eligible for this payment by the Scottish Fiscal Commission have applied. If your application is successful, you can be paid £10-per-week per child under the age of six that you look after. Payments will be made on a monthly basis and backdated from the day that the application is sent.

The new payment was initially meant to be rolled out last year but was delayed in light of COVID-19.
