700 new volunteers needed for Children’s Hearings Scotland

The new volunteers will on the Children's Panel. Children’s Panel members listen and make legal decisions with and for infants, children and young people. They are there to ensure that the young person is at the heart of every decision made.

The hearings system is reliant on 2,500 volunteer Panel Members’ availability to attend hearings to make decisions with and for children, young people and infants. Due to COVID-19, there has a been a reduction in numbers able to attend hearings and as such, new volunteers are needed to ensure the Children’s Hearing System has the capacity to meet the demand for hearings.

Volunteers will develop a range of transferable skills, including the ability to deal with complex issues, make decisions, think analytically, work well within a team and take a leadership role.
