xParental Involvement Act – updated Statutory Guidance
Date: 11th March 2020
Category:
Education, Leisure and Cultural Activities
Closing date: 30th April 2020
The new draft guidance explains the purpose of the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 and the duties placed upon Education Authorities, schools and headteachers to involve and engage parents in their children’s learning and the life and work of our schools.
Scottish Government invites views on the new draft guidance from parent and carer organisations, head teachers, local authorities, third sector organisations, professional bodies, members of the public and any other organisation or individual with an interest.
There are two key aims in re-drafting the guidance:
- modernise the guidance, taking account of the changes in practice and wider legislation that have occurred since 2007;
- strengthen the guidance in so far as possible whilst recognising that the duties and powers in primary statute remain unchanged;
In updating the guidance, Scottish Government also wants to ensure that parental involvement and engagement is given due prominence and recognition as part of wider aims to develop an empowered education system.
