The letter has been sent to all party leaders in the UK, on the occasion of Human Rights Day - 10th December, calling on them to commit to safeguarding universal human rights. It has been prepared by the British Institute of Human Rights and signed by over 100 civil society groups.

The letter outlines that 2020 will be an important year for the UK as many decisions will need to be made about what sort of country the citizens want, what relationship they have with those in power and the ways of going forward.

The letter also calls on the party leaders to stand firm on ensuring that the Human Rights Act remains an integral part not just of the UK’s constitutional arrangements, but also of people’s everyday lives, enabling everyone to live with equal dignity and respect.
