The conference, taking place in Belfast on Tuesday 3rd December 2019, will explore how domestic law is being used to progress implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) across the UK.

It will provide an opportunity for learning about and discussing:

  • developments that are currently taking place across the UK and Jersey to embed children’s human rights into law, policy and practice
  • threats to existing legal protections of children’s human rights
  • opportunities to further legal protections of children’s human rights at a devolved and UK level.

The morning session of the conference will feature both governmental and non-governmental speakers from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England who will provide updates on UNCRC implementation across the UK.

The afternoon session will focus on incorporation more broadly and will feature speakers who will reflect on developments in incorporating human rights into law at an international, UK and devolved level and explore learning and implications for the UK.

There will be panel discussions and opportunities for questions throughout the day to allow delegates to share thoughts and ideas with the speakers. There will also be networking opportunities to allow delegates to learn from each other.

ROCK's Annual Conference is open to all those with an interest in furthering children's rights across the UK including NGOs, public sector bodies, young people, academics, lawyers, office of Children's Commissioners, think tanks, civil servants, government representatives, parliamentarians and policy-makers.
