The memo provides an overview of the extent to which children’s rights are promoted and taken into account in policies and practice at national and European Union (EU) level.

It also discusses ways in which policies and wider initiatives facilitate children’s participation in decisions about their future.

The memo includes sections on:

  • mechanisms for mainstreaming children’s rights in EU counties
  • initiatives to facilitate children’s participation in policy and decision-making

In addition, it encompasses a list of the key policy documents at international and EU level that protect and promote children’s rights, national institutions in each EU country that promote children’s rights and key age requirements of children’s right to vote in EU and national elections.
