The new resolution, adopted on 11th July, expresses concern at the 262 million children and young people globally who do not attend school, recognising that girls are disproportionately represented in this figure.

Reaffirming the right to education in Articles 28-29 of the UNCRC, the resolution calls upon states to take all necessary measures to ensure accessible, inclusive, non-discriminatory and quality education for all, paying particular attention to girls and children from marginalised groups. It further calls on states to accelerate efforts to eliminate fender-based discrimination and violence, including sexual harassment and bullying, in schools.
