The data covers attainment, destinations of school leavers and achievement of curriculum for excellence levels for looked after children in Scotland.

The report highlights that education outcomes for looked after children have improved over the last five years. However, there are still “large gaps” compared with their peers.

The report highlights, for example, that 39% of looked after school leavers in 2017/18 achieved 1 or more qualification at SCQF level 5. This is an increase from 31% in 2012/13, but lags behind the 86% figure for all pupils. Similarly, the proportion of looked after school leavers with positive destinations increased from 69% (2012/13) to 76% (2017/18) but this compares to 93% for all leavers.
