The Information Commissioner has launched a draft of the Age Appropriate Design Code for consultation. The Commissioner has dubbed the code as “a new deal between children and the tech sector.

The Code is the first of its kind anywhere in the world and sets out the specific protections that children require for their data. It will redress the balance between the needs and safety of children and the commercial interests of online services.

The Code contains 16 interconnecting provisions that set out the requirements online services must meet to make their services suitable for children.

The draft Code is open for consultation until the 31st of May 2019.

A full briefing, providing further details about the Code and the potential impact of its provisions, can be found here.
