Scottish Government is looking to develop a Bill which aims to strengthen the existing legislative framework for protecting women and girls from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The Bill seeks to introduce protection orders for women and girls at risk, and place guidance for professionals on a statutory footing.

To inform the development of this Bill, Scottish Government is seeking views on strengthening the legislative framework and on additional provisions including anonymity for victims of FGM; creating an offence of failure to protect from FGM; and creating a duty to notify policy.

Responses to this consultation will help to inform the development of stronger protection for women and girls at risk.
