xReport published outlining progress on socio-economic rights in Great Britain
Date: 29th March 2018
Category:
International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)
The EHRC has published a progress report on socio-economic rights in Great Britain which provides an update on the UK's implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
The report comes two years after the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights set out its recommendations on how to improve social and economic rights for people across the UK. It aims to highlight gaps in implementation of social and economic rights including in areas such as:
- Social security
- Legal Aid
- Work
Since the examination of the UK by CESCR in 2016, the UK Government has not specified the measures it intends to take to address the Committee's Concluding Observations. The report makes recommendations on what the UK can do to make the rights enshrined in the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights a reality in the UK.
