Cyprus ratifies the third Optional Protocol to the CRC

Date: 21st September 2017
Category: Optional protocol on a communications procedure

Cyprus has become the latest country to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a communications procedure.

The Optional Protocol (OP3) allows children, groups of children, or their representatives who claim that their rights have been violated by their State to bring a communication, or complaint, before the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

This therefore means that children in Cyprus will be able to approach the UN if their rights are not being protected and they have exhausted all domestic remedies to seek justice.

Cyprus now joins the 35 other states that have ratified the Optional Protocol including France, Germany, and Spain.
