Updating the school premises regulations

Date: 8th August 2017
Category:

The School Premises (General Requirements and Standards) Regulations 1967 are to be updated and the Scottish Government is seeking views on what should be included in the updated regulations.

The proposal from Scottish Government is to remove reference to Early Learning and Childcare or to other school-specific premises standards which are met by other legislation. This will minimise the regulatory burden and ensure where separate school-specific premises regulations are needed these can be updated or retained.

The consultation should be completed by any stakeholders who have an interest in school buildings and facilities. This will include, local authorities, grant-aided schools, independent school sector, the Care Inspectorate, sportscotland, the Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland, School designers/builders, school users such as teachers, pupils and wider community interests.
