New research maps prevalence of cyber-bullying impacting children and young people

Anti-bullying charity Ditch the Label has published their Annual Bullying Survey, with results showing that social media is making young people increasingly anxious. They surveyed more than 10,000 young people aged 12 to 20.

Key findings:

- Nearly 70% of young people have been abusive towards another person online.
- 17% of young people have been bullied online.
- 47% wouldn't discuss bad things in their lives on social media; many only post an edited version of their lives.
- 40% of young people said they felt bad if nobody liked their selfies.
- 35% said their confidence was directly linked to the number of followers they had.
- Instagram was highlighted as the platform used most often for mean comments; 7% of young people said they had been bullied on the platform.
- 6% of young people had been bullied on Facebook, 5% on Snapchat and 2% on Twitter and YouTube.
