Write for the Children’s Commissioner’s Office: be one of their young bloggers

Date: 15th November 2016
Category: Education, Leisure and Cultural Activities

The Children and Young People's Commissioner for Scotland is looking for volunteers to find the most interesting content from across the web to share with other young people.

About the project

Who they are looking for

The Commissioner's Office is looking for up to 6 young people to blog for them. To be one of them, you'll need to be at least 14 and no older than 17 on the day you apply. If you're under 16 on the day you apply, you'll need a parent or carer to sign the consent box at the bottom of your "I'm interested" form.

What you'll need

To blog for the Commissioner's Office, all you'll need is reliable access to the internet. The Commissioner's Office will train you over the phone after you're selected as a blogger, and online or phone support will be available throughout the project.

What you'll do

The Commissioner's Office will want you to blog for them for at least 3 months, starting in December 2016. This will involve:

  • Finding at least two stories, videos or bits of news that you think other young people would be interested in, and
  • Writing about why you think what you've found will interest other young people.

The Commissioner's Office will then publish what you write on their website and promote it through social media. Blogging should take around 2 hours each week, but it may take more or less time in practice.

What you'll get

If you're selected and actively blog for at least 3 months, the Commissioner's Office are giving away £75 in shopping vouchers.

How to apply

You can apply to blog by emailing blog@cypcs.org.uk with a completed "I'm interested" form, which you can download by clicking the button below. Alternatively, you can send a recording of your answers to the form. The deadline for completed forms is Thursday 8 December.

The form asks you to send us three links you find interesting, and a sentence about why you're interested in each one. These links should be:

What happens next

The Commissioner's Office will look at every form sent and respond to everyone who emails. If you're shortlisted, they will contact you over phone, Skype or Facetime. If you're selected, they contact you to arrange a short training session by phone.

You can email robert.shepherd@cypcs.org.uk with any questions about being a young blogger.
