New Campaign, Playday

Date: 29th March 2016
Category: Recreation, play and cultural activities

Play Scotland are asking organisations to recognise the importance of play in children's lives and to support Playday, the national day for play in the UK and Play on the Longest Day, which is held in Scotland to promote Playday within school settings as national Playday falls out with school term.

Why support Playday?

As well as a celebration of children's right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children's lives. Playday will be celebrated this year on Wednesday 3 August, and Play Scotland are asking all those who support play to become an official campaign supporter. Lending your name alongside other national organisations will help strengthen their call for all children to have the freedom and space to play throughout their childhood.

What happens on Playday?

On Playday, thousands of children, young people and their families will get out and play at hundreds of celebration events across the UK. These celebrations are the cornerstone of a wider national campaign to get play on the agenda of everyone who has an impact on children's lives. This year, the campaign hopes to see around 800 celebrations taking place nationwide to help demonstrate the importance of play for a happy childhood and, of course, to get hundreds of thousands of children out playing!

What next?

Becoming a campaign supporter is easy; you can simply lend your organisation's name for inclusion on the supporters list on the new Playday website which was recently launched. This is also an opportunity for you to promote your work, as we include your logo, brief description and a link to your website on the web page.

If you wish to support Playday, send an email through the website or to SharonMcCluskie@playscotland.org, along with your preferred organisational description, web link and logo in jpg format.
