Nominations open for ‘Play Champions’!

Date: 17th February 2015
Category: Recreation, play and cultural activities

Over the months preceding National Children's Day UK on Sunday 17th May 2015, settings such as playgroups and nurseries that set examples of excellence in play activities can be nominated as Play Champions!

National Children's Day UK are looking for children's centres, childminder settings, playgroups, nurseries and schools where children are given the space and time for play of all kinds - creative, exploratory, imaginative, deep play, rough and tumble play, role play, mastery play - any type of play that involves children's natural creativity and being able to do lots of things without adult direction and the need to achieve any specific, pre-determined outcomes.

Who can be nominated?
You can nominate any setting that you see as an example of excellence in play activities for young children.

What National Children's Day UK will do:
They will award the setting of your choice the Play Champion badge as a sign of their Play Champion status. This means they can carry the Play Champion badge on all their communications and be added to the Play Champions list.

The 2015 theme for National Children's Day UK is 'The Science and Magic of Play.'

Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) requires State Parties to recognise the right of every child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to their age and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.
