Human Rights Council 25th session: access to justice for children

The Human Rights Council's Annual Day on the Rights of the Child is fast approaching. In March, during its 25th session, the Council will dedicate a day to "Access to Justice for Children".

Ahead of this day, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has published a report to inform the discussion. The report sets out to clarify what is meant by access to justice for children, focusing on the ability to obtain just and timely remedies for rights violations. Also covered is the need to establish accessible complaints procedures at the national and international level, to provide children with the advice and assistance they need to engage with the legal system and ways of overcoming the other barriers that children face in upholding their rights.

The report is based on the submissions of States, Special Procedure mandate holders, NGOs, National Human Rights Organisations and other international organisations. Together submitted a paper in preparation for the Annual Day of Discussion.
