'Before you give advice, get some': respectme campaign

This year's respectme campaign looks at the consequences of giving children and young people bad advice when they're being bullied, and is aimed at making adults think before giving children and young people advice about bullying behaviour.

When children and young people tell adults that they are being bullied, it can create an understandably emotional reaction. Very often adults do not know what to do or say, and we know that 'just hit back' is a common response.

The 'Before you give advice, get some' campaign looks at the consequences of giving children and young people bad advice when they're being bullied. It is designed to make adults think and encourages them to get some advice about bullying before they offer guidance.

The 30 second campaign video illustrates the consequences of being told to 'hit back' in a scenario that will be familiar to households across Scotland.

The campaign video and a series of materials and supporting information will be available on respectme's website.

The campaign video was screened in an advertising campaign on STV for the duration of Anti-Bullying Week 2013. This took place from 18th-22nd November and it was a very busy and successful week as respectme held their first Anti-Bullying Awards ceremony at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh.

The inaugural respectme 'Making a Difference' Anti-Bullying Awards received 23 nominations altogether, which showcased some of the really exciting anti-bullying work going on across the country.
