Eurochild contributes to report to UNCRPD Committee on the situation of children with disabilities

Date: 20th October 2013
Category: Disability, Basic Health and Welfare

On 14th October 2013, Eurochild participated in the civil society consultation meeting organised by the European Disability Forum, to collect the evidence from NGOs about the progress achieved by the EU in the delivery of its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) that the EU ratified in 2010.

Eurochild took the opportunity to highlight the human rights concerns faced by many children with disabilities due to institutionalisation, poverty and social exclusion, and gave its assessment of the EU's progress under UNCRPD Articles 7, 19, 23 and 32.

The EU will submit its initial report to the UNCRPD Committee in early 2014, and the parallel report prepared by the European Disability Forum - shortly thereafter.
