Scottish Government’s contribution to the next UNCRC report published

Date: 1st July 2013
Category: UK 1st periodic review

The Scottish Government has published its submission to the next UK periodic report on the UNCRC. In line with their agreement with UK Government Ministers, their contribution was submitted on Friday of last week.

The UK Government will submit a combined report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in January 2014, and will be consulting on this report in September 2013. This will provide an opportunity to ensure that the points raised in the Scottish Government's submission are represented in the combined UK report.

The Scottish Government submission to the UK Government builds on the Scottish Government's 'Do the Right Thing' report, which highlights the Government's priorities for implementing the UNCRC. The findings of Together's State of Children's Rights seminars which were held in May/June 2013 helped to inform the Scottish Government's submission to the UK Government in preparation for the next UK UNCRC reporting round. However, Together will be submitting a separate report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child to fully represent the views and observations of its members.
