National Guidance for Child Protection review

Date: 19th February 2013
Category: General measures of implementation

WithScotland have opened a consultation on The National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland which will close on 31st March 2013.

The National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland was published in December 2010 and at the time of launching, Scottish Government gave a commitment to develop proposals to update and review this on a regular basis.

A number of possible options for a review process were discussed at the National Child Protection Committee (CPC) Chairs Forum and it was agreed that Scottish Government would convene a Steering Group to consider and agree any proposed/additions and amendments. This Steering Group is chaired by Beth Smith, Director of WithScotland.

This 'refresh' is not a full scale review but an opportunity to revisit identified areas of the Guidance to ensure it remains relevant and that the various links and publications signposted within the guidance are still appropriate. There may also be new areas for insertion.

A key strength of the 2010 Guidance is that it was predominately informed by the child protection community and its practitioners and with this in mind, the Steering Group includes members of the National CPC Chairs and Lead Officer Forum and other key stakeholders.
